no one likes acneAcne- just the word itself has a negative connotation and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. No one wants it and no one likes it. But it is a problem that occurs on a daily basis throughout homes across the globe. No matter what age, gender or race you are, you can’t escape it when it occurs.

Acne ‘normally’ occurs, and I use the word normally because it is not always the case, in teenagers. However, acne can also occur in infants and adults. About 80% of the population has experienced the skin condition known as acne. It’s the number one skin disorder in the world. Acne is characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, zits, lumps, redness, and irritation. Acne can appear on any part of the skin but commonly occurs on the face, neck, upper arms, shoulders and back.

Acne is caused by a build up of bacteria and excessive oil in the pores however dirt, sweat, and makeup are also factors which can bring on acne. To avoid the occurrence of acne it’s vital to keep your skin clean by washing with warm water and soap. This removes excess oil, dirt, makeup and bacteria, which can clog your pores. For oily skin an astringent can be used to cleanse and tone the skin, while water based moisturizers will keep your skin from drying out. Acne face washes should be used if you are prone to breakouts. This will specifically target the areas that acne normally appears.

Even though the first reaction to the sight of a pimple is to pop it, its important to avoid touching or squeezing them. By popping your pimples you aggravate the skin, which can make acne appear larger and more visible, the opposite of what you want. It can also spread the bacteria causing more acne to occur. Plus popping your acne leaves a scar on your skin, which can damage the way your skin looks.

Avoid oil based products whenever possible especially on your face. Oil based makeup can add to already oily skin causing acne to appear. Water based alternatives are available for almost every product. Although, concealing pimples with makeup helps to diminish their appearance temporarily, it can often add to your acne problem.

Find a skin are regiment that works for you and stick to it. Alternative and home remedies for acne are available as well. Changing your diet and exercise routines can also help to eliminate your acne problem.
