women exercising, workout routine, women working outThousands of people start an exercise routine every year and stop before they even reach their fitness or weight loss goals. Why do they quit before reaching their potential? Some think its too hard, they don't see the results they want and get discouraged, while others have unrealistic expectations. If you are starting a new workout routine or you have reached a plateau in your current fitness routine, use these tips and tricks to keep yourself going on a path to success.

Exercise Routine

With any workout routine you want to make the most out of each exercise you do. Do exercises that are most effective for your overall goals. If you want to lose weight include cardiovascular/aerobic exercise to burn calories and fat with strength training to build muscle. Interval training is a great way to do both of these exercises within the same workout. Do exercises that are going to give you the most effective exercise.

Be Consistent
You are never going to get to your goals by starting and stopping. You need to be consistent with your exercise. It's better to do a little exercise everyday than to do a lot one day and nothing for another day. Even if its just walking 30 minutes everyday at first then building with time, distance and intensity, that's being consistent.

Realistic Goals
Don't set goals that are unrealistic for your body, shape, size or ability. It is improbable that you will lose 20 pounds in a month. But in 3 months its totally possible. Set realistic goals that are attainable. Also set both long term and short term goals that way you don't become discouraged in the middle and quit.

Choose Exercises that you like
If you don't like to run, don't force yourself to run because you won't stick to it. If you don't like to go to the gym don't waste your money on a gym membership. Instead choose activities and exercises that you can do at home. You don't have to lift weights if you don't like to, rather do resistance exercises that use your own body weight such as push ups, squats, and lunges. By choosing exercises that you like to do you are more likely to stick with it.

Stay Motivated
What motivates you to keep going? Does someone inspire you? For some it may be getting your family or friends involved to create a support system. For others it may be inspirational quotes, videos or stories. Find what motivates you and inspires you  and include it in your daily life and routine.

Be Patient
Everyone wants to see results immediately. It doesn't work like that. It takes time for your body to respond and change. Also, it's important to know that there are ups and downs, setbacks and victories. But don't give up, and don't get discouraged. If you continue and stick with it, you will see results.
